SD.org skin

We've been open for a month and I think its going pretty well...
With that said its time to update the current skin...
So this isnt a contest per say but its a call to submit a skin that will be voted on to use for SD.org --

The submitted skin must have a left and right side bar design along with a center column only (for say the plugins and skins) also a forum skin is a must

The skin that wins will be posted in the download area for all to have and share (also keep that in mind)

We'll give credit for the design much like the current skin's credit is given...

I shall submit my "subdreamers" skin, with a simplistic edge to conserve bandwidth. I realise you want speed. I can most likely get it below 50 kilobytes ( we shall see ) But I have in the past, I'm sure that I can.

if you view kubrick or superficial or Mooreblack you'll notice that there is only two designs but either of those two layouts could be used as the third center column only format if no content is placed in either of the smaller columns.

Well, I went above and beyond the call of duty. It is complete, and is a full Graphite_Pro skin. I&#39;m calling it subdreamers, and I&#39;ll be adding a few new backgrounds for it soon. I thought that it might be nice for users to be able to utilise a free version.

Anyways, it does, 1, 2, or 3 columns, larger on the right or left; collapsible center coloumn titles, and the choice of between 2 side plugin styles.

Graphite is centered, liquid; whatever width you like in one file control the minimum width; the plugin widths, the evrtical spacing. One really nice feature is the ability to control text colours for seperate plugin coloumns ( which I added last night :) ).

on that note please update the CSS file to have a darker copyright (i&#39;ve changed the .org site to be #6E7C8A and hover to be #55606B font size 8 and underline on hover -- please include in an update when you fix the following errors too...)

check some of the code -- if you look at the source on the homepage here -- you&#39;ll notice there are errors with images looking for &#39;.&#036;sdurl.&#39; still...

Hmm, well if you understand css, not extremely ( but advanced ). Check back in an hour or so, and you&#39;ll see the new colour variation. I made it so that the header, category, text, and plugin colours were simple to change around; however the design code is pretty advanced.

If you decide on a colour scheme and 5-10 other people agree on it I will add it as a downloadable package in this post.

Thanks Robert. I would have a colour scheme similar to the one currently used on my site ( www.bushcraftliving.com ) which is earthy, natural colours like browns and creams or maybe some green etc. I don&#39;t know if there would be alot of support for that..

Well, I like the site, and its message. I&#39;ve also liked your good temperment over the while, and your kind words; so yes, I shall create an earthy tone of this theme for you. This is a free theme for GP, and as such I would not ask for money for modifications.

However, in the future if you&#39;re looking for more themes for GP ( which we will most likely have - and soon, I hired a designer - ) give sddepot.com a chance to make something unique, flexible and awe-inspiring. I make it my business to be perticiular in both design and filesize; while maintaining a vast amount of features.

Well I have no problem with a copyright line if its Clearly able to be removed (ie not watermarked to the graphics or will mess up the skin when removed)

Hmm, It is a good idea; and it&#39;s fair. Perhaps I could make a nice javascript popup thing for authors to add their copyright information ? For these free skins it would be nice if the link etc were not "right in your face" so to speak ? I had one that worked in both the forumskin and the site with no modifications needed. Just a simple htm file and a nice popup script with a sized window.

Considering that the site used a halloween skin for some days switching to subdreamers or another skin I guess. Plenty of nice options here. At any rate I provided Abcohen with a download package which makes reverting back to subdreamers an easy process.

After I release a Pro skin this morning, I&#39;ll be replacing the free downloads dlm with a working version.

From out of the ashes comes Subdreamers2; with a brand new look and increased levels of functionality. I had made a few redo&#39;s so to speak of designs which just were&#39;nt working; but see for yourself why I think "Subdreamers 2" is one of the best skin designs I&#39;ve ever done unaided.

Be sure to note that there will be a modification to convert it to red and green for the holiday season.

My skin is all ready to. I like to make complete skins even thought I&#39;m only using them for my site. I figured that a blue variant would be much better, which would be that hard to change. I can change it to whatever blue you want, or I can do what I think is good, but all I really need is the SD logo so I can make a header image.

My skin is all ready to. I like to make complete skins even thought I&#39;m only using them for my site. I figured that a blue variant would be much better, which would be that hard to change. I can change it to whatever blue you want, or I can do what I think is good, but all I really need is the SD logo so I can make a header image.

Hi everyone, I noticed some of you were commenting on the skin and how it was causing errors in FF. Please, if those of you read this let me know what they are so I can fix them.

Some of you mentioned too many scroll bars. I&#39;m working on this. It as to do with the overflow tag in the CSS. I noticed if they show up and you refresh they go away. I don&#39;t why this but I will fix it, here is a possible explanation

Netscape 4: Incorrect, same as hidden.
Mozilla: Correct
Explorer 4-6 Windows: Correct
Explorer 4 Mac: Incorrect, same as hidden.
Explorer 5 Mac: Correct, but buggy. Initially nothing appears in the box, only when you scroll it away, then back again the text does appear.
Opera 5: Incorrect, same as hidden.
Opera 7: Correct.
Safari: Correct.

If you see anything PM me or post up, I&#39;ll fix ASAP.

mmk, here&#39;s a thumbnail of the design ( shimmer ) which I&#39;ve designed. I&#39;ll turn it into a full design in a few days.

This perticiular skin has the strength of having the design elements and colours from most all default bb skins. I&#39;ll include a vb ( purplish ), phpbb ( more teal ), and the default is IPB ( blue ). SMF should be fine with any of these, though by request I&#39;ll make one.

P.S - the Darker plugin represents one choice ( bevelled ) and the lighter represents another ( clean ). This will be a Graphite Pro light skin.

I&#39;m completing it right now. Though there had been plans to release this as a Graphite Pro skin, I&#39;ve decided to make this one similiar - but in a standalone version.

The results should be incredible - and the skin a smaller size than was ever thought possible for the amount of control available.

I&#39;m making the subdreamer.org custom header for it now - and I&#39;ll be sending it to ABC Shortly. I have to step out for a while; but I&#39;ll be back - and when I do get back there will probably be a quick re-release of this which will reduce the filesize by 30%.

When looking at the filesize, remember that the design images take up most of the weight.

- Total size of design images for the admin cp: 44.8 KB.
- This means that this skin is actually only: 88.2 kilobytes.

I intend to get it down to around 65-78kb without the design images unzipped for some mad speed.

alrighty sooo we have this design up -- its truly wonderful --
And its that time to start asking for a new one (since i&#39;m giving you guys 4 weeks&#33;&#33;&#33;)

Early part of July we&#39;ll have a new skin...

Changes to the rules, you must submit a working skin (not just a design layout) you can put a small link or image to the designers site - like the one we currenlty have (if you want to promote a commericial site or just your site)...

it has to be xhtml & css valid

This doesnt have to be an original design (but you must say where it came from like if its a wordpress ported template designed by MR. X [ie. subduck&#39;s kubrick skin])

As always the winning skins becomes this sites skin for a couple of months (2 or 3) -- it will be posted on our Download manager

Nothing real special. This skin a modded version of the last IGGYCORP.com SD skin. It has room for 46 plugins in different configuration depending which plugins you choose. For some reason the only part that the skin lacks is a good header background, or some styling uptop. It&#39;s the only part I&#39;m unhappy with.

It also has a style switcher to choose between round green, or square blue.
