This is the classic question. Right now using phpBB integrated with Subdreamer, however after two months I'm thinking of making a change for another forum software. I like phpBB, but I have recently received hacking threads and I don't have time to be upgrading to latest all the time. Also there are some funcionalities that I like from VBB and IPB that phpBB doesn't have at the moment.
$200 bucks is a huge expense for me, so I wouldnt want to regret my decition later on.
Some things I will like to know
Which one is easier/faster to skin?
Which one is easier to update?
Which one works best with Subdreamer?

The both have good points and bad points. IPB development occurs in faster cycles. VB released are more infrequent, but always offer ground-breaking features.
IPB offers a number of "drop-in" add-ons that VB doesn't have: galleries, link manager, blogs, etc. But they cost $$$
VB has many of the same features for fee at vbulletin.org, but its more work for you to install them.
Personally, I'd go with VB. You'll never regret spending the money. And, maybe most importantly to you, they are pretty fast in responding the security issues.

Myself I like IPB better; but it's personal preference. IPB has had many of the things VB has planned for the new version for a while; ie: xml mods. That; and even though I have massive security ( anti-trojan, anti-virus, anti-spyware, proxy, and intrusion reporting software ) the file uploads still work. They do'nt always with vb for me.
IPB also looks better imo.
However, after all of that said vb's great too; I ca'nt knock it. Just sometimes very utilitarian.

Well I made an order with IPB. Why? I used Invision boards in the past (when it was free) and they were pretty neat, I like the overall clean look of it, but most of all because i don't need to pay for upgrades. I think this last reason is what made me go for it. I'm going to have to pay for subDreamer download updates, so add the VB updates + hosting its a pretty large cost for a hobby website.
I must say I really wanted to try VB for the "vBulletin Super Skin for vB3.5" It sounds like an awesome skin and because I have heard VB support is very fast. But then again, im streching my money as it is.

OMG! Fred! Have you made a "superskin" for IPB as well???
Guys, take a look at this site: http://www.chevron7.com/. Seems like FASherman did the same as he did for vBulletin to make IPB skin Subdreamer instead of the opposite.
Oh... can anyone guess who I am? Any bright minds here? ;)
